Deltron 3030 just embarked on a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, a sci-fi hip-hop opera and cult classic that has been passed down through generations. Pretty cool to get a chance to see them at a legendary venue like the Commodore.
They worked their way through the album in its entirety — highlights being "3030", "Virus", "Mastermind", and "Madness" — before ending the show with a sneak peek at a track from an album they are working on. And they finished with a cover of "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz, a fitting finale, given the overlap between the groups.
The Friday night crowd was rowdy but mostly good-natured — clearly lots of folks were blowing off steam after a long week. I bailed from the front after getting jostled a few too many times, but still enjoyed the view from further back. Classic Commodore energy, but I think Deltron is more of a listen and soak it all in kind of experience.
